Do I Really Need Therapy? Maybe I'm Not That Bad?
If you are finidng yourself struggling or feel Anxiety or Low Mood holding you back but look like you are functioning, you mind be questioning what could help. Perhaps you get thorugh each day and get most things done but find yourself exhausted with no time to do anything for yourself or never getting a feeling of achivement or things feeling good enough. You might feel anxious, low, overwhelmed or exhausted. But then the thought creeps in:
'I’m not that bad, other people have it worse'
This kind of thinking is incredibly common and can often become a hidden barrier to seeking support.
'Not Bad Enough' Is Still Not Feeling Right:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) isn’t just for people in crisis, with severe enduring diffiuclties or for people who've found themselves unable to push any longer to the point it's had a big impact on their life and ability to function, CBT can also help people who feel they are coping, but struggling silently. You might find yourself:
Easily irritated - snapping at loved ones or feeling irritable more often
Constantly overthinking or worrying about things - second guessing decisions, choices, responsibility.
Completly exhausted - struggling to think and process things
Feeling disconnected, unmotivated, or like you’ve lost yourself
Saying, 'it's not that bad, no one is threatening me, I shouldn't feel like this, I should be able to manage this on my own'.
These are all valid reasons to consider therapy, even if you don’t think your problems might not be 'serious enough'.
Comparing Suffering Doesn’t Make Yours Disappear:
It’s natural to look around at others, online, in the media, and compare ourselves to others. You might think, 'At least I’m not dealing with [X]', or, 'Other people have it so much worse, I shouldn’t complain'.
But it doesn't work like that. Your diffiuclties and struggles are yours. You are the one living your life. You don't have to achieve a certain point to be worthy of therapy. Would you think the same of someone else struggling, feeling hurt, anxious, stressed, stuck or simply want to feel more like themselves again?
What can Online CBT Therapy offer even when you feel you are 'managing':
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) could support you to understand patterns in your thoughts, behaviours, physcial sensations and emotions and teach you to use that understanding to break the cycles. You could identify and learn to relate differently to thoughts like these, 'I should try harder, therapy is for the weak, I don't have it bad enough to need support'. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit.
I have worked with many people over the years who have said:
'I wish I’d done this sooner, I didn’t realise how much I’d been struggling'
You deserve that relief too.
Starting Therapy Isn’t a Sign of Weakness, It’s an Act of Self-Respect
Choosing to explore your own mental health and wellbeing doesn’t mean you are failing at life or a failure as a person. In fact, recognising when you are struggling and choosing to act on ot could be seen as a sign of strength.
Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, low mood, burnout, people-pleasing, overthinking, or simply feeling stuck in a rut and are struggling, online CBT can help you make sense of it and move forward.
You Don’t Have to Wait Until Things Get Worse:
If you have been thinking of starting therapy but telling yourself 'I'm fine, it's not that bad, i just need to try harder' but still feel low, lost, or not quite like yourself, it might be time to listen to what your mind and body are trying to tell you.
